Weak cooling is a symptom, not a diagnosis. A workshop may propose an AC inspection, cabin-filter change, refrigerant refill, leak repair or another job. These are different services with different reasons and inclusions.
Is an AC gas refill always necessary?
No. Ask the technician what test or inspection shows that refrigerant is low and whether the system has a leak. Hyundai's Exter owner's manual notes that low refrigerant can reduce cooling, but overfilling also harms performance. It advises inspection when operation is abnormal and says the correct refrigerant and lubricant type and amount matter. This is vehicle-specific guidance; check your own manual and under-bonnet label.
What is included in an AC service quote?
There is no universal AC-service package. Ask the garage to itemise diagnostic labour, leak detection, any repair, refrigerant type and quantity, cabin-filter replacement and cleaning treatments separately. Ask which items are needed to restore cooling and which are optional. A single bundled price makes it hard to compare workshops or understand a repeat fault.
What if cooling becomes weak again soon after a refill?
Tell the workshop when the refill was performed and ask it to inspect for leakage or damage before repeating the same work. The Creta Electric maintenance guidance lists checking AC lines and connections for leakage and damage. That example does not set a diagnosis or repair procedure for every model.
Can I refill the refrigerant myself?
Do not open the pressurised system as a DIY experiment. The Exter manual says AC refrigerant servicing should be done by trained and certified technicians with proper equipment. Give the workshop your exact model and year so it can identify the required refrigerant specification.
Before approving work
- Describe when cooling is weak: idle, traffic, highway or all the time.
- Ask for the diagnosis and any leak or damage finding.
- Request a written breakdown of labour, refrigerant, parts and taxes.
- Ask what happens if the cooling problem returns after the repair.
