Maruti Suzuki vs Hyundai Service Cost India 2025

India's two largest car brands go head to head on service costs. The gap is smaller than you think — but it exists where it matters most.

If you're choosing between a Maruti Suzuki and a Hyundai, service cost is one of the most important factors over a 5-year ownership period. Both brands dominate Indian roads, but their maintenance costs differ in ways that compound significantly over time.

The headline numbers

A standard 10,000 km basic service at an authorised centre costs ₹2,500–₹3,800 for Maruti Suzuki models and ₹3,000–₹5,800 for Hyundai models. That gap — roughly ₹1,000–₹2,000 per service — adds up to ₹10,000–₹20,000 over 5 years at two services per year.

Model-by-model comparison

The comparison gets more nuanced when you look at specific segments. The Maruti Swift (₹2,800–₹3,800 per basic service) directly competes with the Hyundai i20 (₹3,200–₹4,500). That's a ₹400–₹700 gap per service in Maruti's favour.

In the compact SUV segment, the Maruti Brezza (₹3,500–₹4,800) vs the Hyundai Venue (₹3,500–₹5,000) is nearly identical. The Creta, Hyundai's most popular SUV, costs ₹3,800–₹5,800 — more than any comparable Maruti model.

What explains the difference?

Three factors drive Maruti's cost advantage:

  • Simpler engines: Maruti's K-series and Z-series engines use standard 5W-30 oil in modest quantities (3.0–3.5 litres). Hyundai's Smartstream engines often require slightly larger oil fills.
  • Parts pricing: Maruti's scale means spare parts are aggressively priced. An OEM oil filter for a Swift costs ₹180–₹220. The equivalent Hyundai filter costs ₹280–₹350.
  • Labour rates: Maruti Arena service centres, particularly outside metro cities, have lower labour rates than Hyundai Blue Link centres.

Where Hyundai closes the gap

Hyundai's 3-year unlimited km warranty (vs Maruti's 2-year) means one extra year of free parts coverage for major components. Hyundai also offers 3 free services (at 1,000 km, 10,000 km, and 20,000 km) vs Maruti's 3 free services at 1,000 km, 5,000 km, and 10,000 km — effectively the same deal structured differently.

For the oil change specifically, the gap is minimal — ₹1,200–₹2,000 for Maruti vs ₹1,400–₹2,500 for Hyundai. Neither brand will break your budget here.

Multi-brand garage option

After the warranty period, both brands see similar savings at trusted multi-brand garages — 30–35% less than authorised centres. The absolute saving is larger for Hyundai (since authorised costs are higher), which makes the post-warranty cost difference between brands negligible.

The verdict

Maruti Suzuki is genuinely cheaper to service in India — roughly ₹1,000–₹1,500 per service for comparable models. Over 5 years, that's a real ₹10,000–₹15,000 saving. But Hyundai's richer feature set, better warranty terms, and (in many segments) stronger resale value can offset this. Choose Maruti if running cost is your primary metric; choose Hyundai if you want more features and can absorb the slightly higher service bill.
